今日から約10か月の予定で，本校に2名の留学生がやってきました。

一人はフランスからの男子生徒，もう一人はスイスからの女子生徒です。

朝の職員朝礼では，少し緊張した様子ながら日本語であいさつ。その後，Zoomを使って全校生徒にも自己紹介をしてもらいました。二人とも一生懸命日本語で話してくれて，その姿に温かい拍手が送られていました。

これから始まる日本での学校生活。きっと期待と不安が入り混じっていることでしょう。でも，ぜひ仰星での毎日を思い切り楽しんでほしいと思います。とはいえ，来日してすぐに授業へ参加するのはなかなか大変なものです。「ちゃんとスタートできているかな」と少し気になり，授業の様子を見に行ってきました。

まずおじゃましたのは，高校1年3組（総合進学コース）の英語コミュニケーションの授業です。

こっそり声をかけてみると，返ってきたのは一言　—「むずかしいです。」—　やはりそうですよね（笑）。

英語の授業は比較的入りやすいとは思いますが，日本語での説明の部分にはまだまだ戸惑うことも多い様子でした。しかし，ペアワークになると周囲の生徒たちと笑顔でコミュニケーションを取りながら，一生懸命活動していました。その表情を見て少し安心しました。

続いて訪れたのは，高校2年9組（総合進学コース理系αクラス）の数学Bの授業。

この日の単元は「統計」。数学ダメダメな僕は相変わらず身構えてしまいますが（笑），留学生にとってはなおさらです。しかも単元の途中からの参加なので，なかなかの高難度ミッションです。

それでも周りの生徒たちが自然に声をかけながらサポートしており，高校生のコミュニケーション能力には本当に感心させられました。彼も友人たちとやり取りしながら，少しずつ内容を理解している様子でした。

二人とも，これからクラブ活動にも挑戦してみたいとのこと。授業はもちろんですが，部活動や学校行事，友人との何気ない会話など，教室の外にも学びはたくさんあります。日本での生活の中で，そして仰星だからこそ体験できることに積極的にチャレンジしてほしいと思います。

10か月後，二人がどんな成長を見せてくれるのか，今からとても楽しみです。生徒の皆さんも，ぜひ積極的に声をかけてください。皆さんのフレンドリーな一言が，新しくTeam Gyoseiに加わった二人にとって何より心強いはずです。

Welcome to Gyosei!

Today, we welcomed two exchange students who will be studying at Gyosei for approximately ten months.

One is a male student from France, and the other is a female student from Switzerland.

At the morning staff meeting, both students greeted us in Japanese despite their nervousness.  Later, they introduced themselves to the entire school via Zoom.  They spoke earnestly in Japanese, and their efforts were met with warm applause from students.

As they begin their new lives in Japan, they are no doubt feeling both excited and anxious.  We hope they will fully enjoy their time at Gyosei.  At the same time, starting school life in a new country and joining classes right away is no easy task.  Wondering how they were settling in, I decided to visit a few of their classes.

The first class I visited was an English Communication class in Class 1-3.

When I quietly asked the exchange student how things were going, the reply came with a smile: “It’s difficult.”  That’s what I expected!

English classes may be easier to follow than some other subjects, but the explanations are often given in Japanese.  Naturally, there were moments of confusion.  However, during pair-work activities, she was smiling, communicating with her classmates, and working hard throughout the lesson. Seeing that reassured me.

Next, I visited a Mathematics B class in Class 2-9.

The topic of the day was statistics. As someone who has never been particularly fond of mathematics, I still find myself feeling a little intimidated by the subject!  For our exchange student, the challenge must have been even greater.  On top of that, he joined the class in the middle of the unit, making it a particularly demanding task.

Nevertheless, their classmates naturally reached out and offered support.  I was impressed by the communication skills and kindness of our students. He was actively interacting with their new friends and gradually making sense of the lesson.

Both students are also interested in joining club activities.  Learning does not take place only in the classroom.  Clubs, school events, and even casual conversations with friends provide valuable opportunities for growth.  I hope they will take on many new challenges and enjoy experiences that can only be found here at Gyosei.

I am already looking forward to seeing how much they will grow over the next ten months.  I would also encourage all Gyosei students to introduce themselves and start conversations with our new members of Team Gyosei.  A friendly word can make all the difference as they begin their life in a new country.
